Gazan Kids in Ramadan

Journalist Hani interviewed Mohammad, a boy navigating Ramadan in the absence of his parents, both of whom were syahid [martyred] on the 29th of October.

In his own narration of loss and longing, Mohammad recounts the harrowing day when a trip to buy Maggi ended in tragedy-the bombing of his neighborhood and the devastating loss of his family.

Found in shrouds at the Indonesian hospital, his parents’ passing and his brother’s burial in a mass grave are just glimpses of the profound impact of conflict on individual lives. Alone, with the sacred month of Ramadan bringing no solace, Mohammad’s only wish is for the impossible return of his parents.
