A Touch of Love

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was returning from the siege of Taif, he stopped for prayer at Jirâna and asked for the call to prayer.

A young man named Abu Mahzūrah and ten of his friends, who were there and heard the call to prayer, hid somewhere and began to mock the call to prayer, imitating the muezzin. Hearing this, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked the youth to be brought to him.

The youths who were brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were frightened. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked them to recite the adhan again.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ liked the voice of one of the youths, Abu Mahzūra, and patted his head and taught him the adhan. Then he gave him some money and sent him to Attâb ibn Asīd to work as a muezzin in the Haram.

Abu Mahzūra became a Muslim that day. He never cut the hair that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stroked. He worked as a muezzin in Masjid al-Haram until his death.
